EHE Grant Resources

Getting Started

As you are working on grant applications, you may wonder if there are resources that can help you make your application stronger. ISCI has compiled our most helpful tools and other resources that can be used in grant application processes. Scroll through our suggested videos and interactive tools to fortify your application.

Ending the HIV Epidemic in the US (EHE) Initiative

The EHE Initiative was announced in 2019 with the goal of ending the HIV epidemic in the United States by 2030. Specifically, the initiative aims to reduce the number of new HIV infections in the United States by 75 percent by 2025, and by at least 90 percent by 2030, totaling an estimated 250,000 prevented HIV infections.

Agencies across the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) developed operational plans to pursue this goal, which leverage scientific advancements in the response to HIV and help coordinate the many successful programs, resources, and infrastructure of HHS agencies and offices. These efforts are focused on 57 geographic priority areas.

NIAID, along with several other institutes and centers, has issued a new Notice of Special Interest (NOSI) on EHE, which applies to due dates on or after September 7, 2024, and subsequent receipt dates through January 9, 2026. Learn more by reading this ISCI news article.

Relevant Tools for EHE Grant Applications

What Is the Implementation Outcomes Crosswalk?

The HIV Implementation Outcomes Operationalization Guide is a translational tool to help EHE-funded HIV researchers and implementation partners identify and select relevant implementation outcomes for their implementation research projects. It is a living document that will continue to be refined as we receive more feedback on its use.

How Can You Use This Guide in Your Work?

The guide is a menu from which you can choose the most appropriate outcomes for your specific context, HIV intervention, and research question. It can serve you as you develop a proposal, execute it, or refine it for further inquiry.

The full list of constructs can seem overwhelming; however, not all will be feasible for every study or relevant/important for your stage of research.

What Is the Implementation Research Logic Model (IRLM)?

The IRLM is an organizing tool developed to improve the specification, rigor, reproducibility, and transparency of implementation research projects of various study designs and at various stages of research. The IRLM is a required component of the FY2020 one- and two-year EHE ARC/CFAR supplement announcement.

What Is the Literature Review Dashboard?

The Literature Review Dashboard is an interactive database tool comprised of hundreds of US studies that identify multilevel determinants of HIV implementation. The aim of this tool is to give implementation researchers and practitioners access to the articles and implementation findings of systematic reviews that can help to inform delivery of HIV programs and services. The ISCI team will update this dashboard periodically. Here’s a snapshot of what is included to date:

    • 239 peer-reviewed, US-based studies containing over 1,900 determinants of PrEP implementation
    • Data are coded by setting, geographic region, priority population, domains and constructs based on the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) 2.0, valence (i.e., barriers, facilitators), and more.
