IS Navigation: Practitioners

Welcome to the IS Navigation Practitioner page. Here you will find a learning curriculum that introduces the foundational principles and methods of Implementation Science (IS).

What is this?

This curriculum contains material (videos, journal articles, web sites) that are freely available to the public on the internet. The content of the curriculum has been selected and does not include all the material available on the internet. When possible, we have selected content with HIV specific examples and applications. We will update the curriculum content as new material is made available.

Who this curriculum is for?

HIV Implementation Practitioners (CIPC-ISCI 2022): individual people, the multi-level health service organizations and institutions (city, state, federal), and possible groups (policy-based, interest-based, action-based, practice-based, faith-based), that:

-Have lived experience with HIV; are people living with HIV.

-Are interested in using implementation research findings for HIV related work.

-Directly fund others to implementation HIV programs/treatments in communities.

-Provide direction, leadership, and technical assistance in how HIV programs/treatments are implemented, monitored, evaluated in communities.

-May collaborate and inform implementation research proposals and projects

Implementation Practitioners (Kirchner et al 2016)people who increase the uptake of an EBP into practice by: (a) applying strategies and tools developed in implementation research and/ or (b) working with those with implementation expertise to con-textualize evidence- based implementation strategies and improve clinical processes.

Researchers and research teams new to IS: people in academic institutions that are currently engaged in or are planning to engage implementation partners in an implementation project.

How to use this curriculum?

Self-guided learning: This content is intended to be viewed at your own pace. You may feel overwhelmed with the content and this is expected. Implementation Science has it’s own language and concepts that takes time to learn.

Understanding How Implementation Works

Partnerships for Implementation Research & Practice

This video was organized for EHE funded projects. The speakers discuss that central role of partnerships in IS and in the EHE initiative. The speakers introduces CBPR, define partnerships as an implementation strategy and describe principles for engaging stakeholders in implementation projects.

Duration: 56min

Equity on the HIV Care Continuum

Formative evaluation and pre-implementation activities offer an opportunity to elicit key information about inequitable health experiences and outcomes that you might not get unless you ask direct questions. Presenters demonstrate how implementation research and health equity research complement each other theoretically; in addition, they provide examples of applying a health equity lens in implementation research to deliver LGBTQ+ affirming care and promote viral suppression through community health worker engagement.
