The HIV Implementation Science Coordination Initiative (ISCI) is committed to advancing the field of implementation science by providing various trainings and professional development opportunities for researchers, practitioners, and other professionals. Below is a list of the currently available opportunities, along with open positions on the ISCI team.

Postdoctoral Scholar in HIV Implementation Science

Position Overview: ISCI is seeking a postdoctoral scholar interested in advancing the use of dissemination and implementation science methods in HIV and accelerating the uptake of implementation research findings in HIV practice. The scholar will engage in diverse research activities including but not limited to systematic reviews of HIV implementation literature, data coordination and harmonization of HIV research projects, tool and resource development and dissemination, and training of researchers and practitioners. The scholar will also have opportunities to analyze existing data, author/co-author manuscripts, and pursue independent research questions.

Location: At the Chicago, IL, campus of Northwestern University

Format: Hybrid

Application Period: Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the position is filled, with the goal of interviewing candidates between December 2025 and January 2026. The position will begin in the summer or fall of 2026.

Research Assistant Professor, SISCI

Position Overview: The Research Assistant Professor will support ongoing research and coordination for SISCI. Responsibilities also include leading and supporting grant submissions and progress reports; overall program management; supervision of junior staff; providing support to facilitate data harmonization efforts; overseeing coordination of all activities with the R01s; assisting with the development of common data elements protocols; providing mentoring and educational activities; and fostering interdisciplinary research collaborations. The position is full time and non-tenure-eligible.

Location: At the Chicago, IL, campus of Northwestern University

Visiting Scholars in HIV Implementation Science Program

Main Objective: Strengthens academic-community partnerships and develops HIV implementation science knowledge through an individualized mentorship relationship.

Who It’s For: Early- to mid-career scientists working in HIV and/or implementation science research

Format: Hybrid

Application Cycle: The 2026 program application period will open Monday, November 10, 2025. The program will run from February 11 through July 31, 2026.

The Practitioner-Oriented Implementation Science Education (POISE) Training

Main Objective: Training on implementation science and innovative tools that can be applied to real-world practice, which includes basic implementation science concepts, identifying implementation barriers and facilitators and implementation strategies to address them, and identifying measurable implementation outcomes.

Who It’s For: HIV prevention and care practitioners (e.g., people who provide direct HIV services, engage in HIV program planning, or fund HIV-related services)

Format: Hybrid

Application Cycle: The 2026 training application period is open November 12, 2025 – January 11, 2026. The program will run from February through June 2026.

HIV and Social Determinants of Health Implementation Practitioner Training

Main Objective: Supports implementation practitioners with training to increase their understanding of implementation science, to identify ways in which implementation science methods and results can be applied in their HIV programs, and how implementation science can be used to address social and structural determinants of health. This training is provided by the Sociostructural Implementation Science Coordination Initiative (SISCI).

Who It’s For: Implementation practitioners; individuals who work in HIV prevention, treatment, linkage, and surveillance service provision; or community partners of HIV researchers

Format: Hybrid

Application Cycle: The 2024-25 training application period has ended. Programs typically run from November to April, with applications open in the months prior.

HIV Implementation Science Social Determinants of Health Fellowship

Main Objective: Support ESIs focused on HIV-related research with training and mentoring opportunities in IS to encourage and capacitate ESIs in the submission of successful IS-focused grants. This training is provided by the Sociostructural Implementation Science Coordination Initiative (SISCI).

Who It’s For: Postdocs, early-stage investigators (ESIs), and exceptional senior-level PhD candidates

Format: Hybrid

Application Cycle: The 2024-25 fellowship application period has ended. Programs typically run from October to May, with applications open in the months prior.

Implementation Science Navigation for Practitioners

Main Objective: A free, self-guided learning curriculum that introduces the foundational principles and methods of implementation science.

Who It’s For: Practitioners, researchers, and research teams new to implementation science

Format: Virtual

Estimated Time to Complete: 20 hours
