Ending the HIV Epidemic in the United States: A Snapshot of NIH-Funded EHE Projects, 2019-2024

In early 2025, the HIV Implementation Science Coordination Initiative (ISCI) developed a one page snapshot of National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded Ending the HIV Epidemic (EHE) projects from 2019 to 2024. The snapshot includes a high-level overview of projects’ primary interventions, priority populations, dissemination methods, funding mechanisms, and more, providing valuable insight into the state of the EHE initiative since it was launched in 2019.

Background on EHE Projects

As part of the EHE initiative, the NIH has provided awards to institutions participating in the NIH-funded Centers for AIDS Research (CFAR) and the NIMH AIDS Research Centers (ARC) programs. The recipients of the awards are referred to as EHE projects. These projects support research for HIV care and prevention in 33 priority counties; Washington, DC; and San Juan Municipio (Puerto Rico). With coordination and support from ISCI, the projects strengthen research-community collaborations and enhance the implementation science knowledge base needed for the EHE initiative. The projects involve partnerships between CFAR/ARC investigators, local health officials, and community groups in EHE priority areas.
